    Hi,

    I’d like to have a tan background color for the header and non-content areas to the left and right as seen here:

    http://www.webdesignfromscratch.com/

    How could I do this with the Balance Theme?  Thank you.

    You need to set the body background color to your required tan colour on line 180 of style.css:
    body {
    background-color: #fff;
    }

    Then set the background color of #inner to white around line 497 in style.css:

    #inner {
    margin: 40px auto 0;
    overflow: hidden;
    width: 960px;
    background-color:#fff;
    }
