category blog setup instructions don't match what I'm seeing

I’d like to set up several category blogs using the NEWS child theme and found instructions here: http://my.studiopress.com/tutorials/category-blog-page/ but step 2 doesn’t match what I see on the new page as I’m trying to create it. I gave it a name and chose “blog” as the template, but nowhere on the page do I see anything called “custom field” or a button by that name.

Next, you’ll need to add a custom field to your page. Scroll down to the custom field meta box, and create a new custom field by clicking the Add Custom Fieldbutton.

In the upper right hand corner of page there is a screen options button. Click and check custom fields.
