    Hi Guys,

We are looking at writing some child themes for genesis and allowing our customers to choose which they like and then we do some simple design changes.

This would all be easy, except when changing child themes the widget areas all change and then the widgets go out of place.

Does anyone have any tips as to how we should code the child themes, so they we can easily change the child theme and keep widgets in their places etc?

We are looking to be able to do the following
    – change child theme to suit the one the client chose
    – new child theme comes complete in terms of appearance and widgets
    – we only have to do styling.

    is this possible?

All above 3 points are possible,

Widgets issue happens when you move from one theme to another. If too many custom widgets have been added and new theme supports those widgets – then you can also use https://wordpress.org/plugins/widget-importer-exporter/ plugin.

However, if new theme does not have support for specific widget type then that part won’t appear when you setup new theme.
