Hi,
Another question about Genesis. Still very much a beginner....
I cannot change the way excerpts display on my site. Whatever I set in the Genesis 'content archive' settings and WP 'reading options', it's just shows a title and text.
I only have this with this site/Genesis install.
I copied a theme over from a website I build earlier, and this one doesn't work either. It does in the other website, so I start to suspect it's something with Genesis.I'm looking at this all morning now, checked all settings between both sites, but feel like I'm running in circles atm.
Can a Genesis install get corrupted somehow?I'm running the identical set of plugins as the other website btw, and checked behavior with plugins actived and deactivated. No change.

October 29, 2013 at 8:06 am #69627Rob WuMemberHi Anita,
Thanks for the quick reply.
But localhost/website will be a bit difficult to show.... 😉I found this, it might be something similar:
http://www.studiopress.community/topic/cant-turn-off-excerpts-show-full-posts-on-content-archives/I have been testing some plugins for the website to see if they would contribute, and there might have been one that somehow broke something in the database?
It's not the child theme I'm building, as a perfectly running theme from another website setup doesn't solve this either, so it must be Genesis related. What I tested so far:
- running only Genesis: problem exist
- running child theme for this site: problem exist
- running child theme from working site: problem exist
- running theme 2013: showing list of full page blog entries.Any thoughts will be great. If it is Genesis, exporting the settings, reinstalling Genesis and reimporting the settings might not help.
October 29, 2013 at 9:15 am #69643AnitaKeymasterWhat Child Theme are you using?

October 29, 2013 at 9:41 am #69652Rob WuMemberBoth websites are based on the generic Genesis child theme, if modified a bit.
It's only one website showing this behavior. The 'regular' WP child themes don't show the title/text issues.
October 29, 2013 at 9:43 am #69655AnitaKeymasterHave you tried replacing your Genesis Framework with a fresh copy?

October 29, 2013 at 9:45 am #69656MealtogMemberI cannot remember where I read it but I think Excerpt codes needs to be added or tweaked somewhere. Can you choose to display content and limit it with # of characters?
Just read your first question again. Are you trying to display a thumbnail in your archives or display Excerpts?
Also, have you tried changing things on the Genesis>> Theme Settings >. Content Archives section?

Not yet, I was trying to find the cause before starting to un/reinstall themes etc. 😉
It seems I''m out of options atm, and have to start doing this.@ Mealtog:
Yes, but changing any setting in Genesis is being ignored. I've created another website with exactly the same plugins and settings, and there it works. See my comments above. Very weird......October 29, 2013 at 9:53 am #69663MealtogMemberHey Rob, what are you trying to change? I only see you say you cannot change the way Content Archives are displayed. What are you showing now and what are you trying to get it to show. For more content, try Content and limit to a high # of characters just for a test.
I will try and mirror on my end what you are doing as well to help you test. But I need to know what to tweak.
October 29, 2013 at 9:59 am #69664AnitaKeymasterIt's hard working in the blind when we cannot see your code. Can you possibly provide some screenshots?

October 29, 2013 at 10:01 am #69666Rob WuMemberHi,
What I'm trying is Genesis to show the settings I set for the Content Archive, but it's only showing title_text.
What I want is Title+Thumbnail+Text. And yes, I turned on the option for the Featured image 😉I tried all code snippets for the functions, but they are ignored. Like I said, weird.... 😉
October 29, 2013 at 10:01 am #69667AnitaKeymasterOne more thing, are you working with a "grid" function on there? Say, similar to how Eleven40 and other themes are coded?

October 29, 2013 at 10:10 am #69673MealtogMemberRob, I only have Display Post Content and Display Post Excerpt in that dropdown. Sounds like you have more than I do?
Switch to a non Genesis theme (maybe one of the default ones) and see if the proper things are displayed. That may tell us if it's Genesis or WordPress itself.
October 29, 2013 at 10:12 am #69675Rob WuMemberHi,
I did, see my second post from the top. It's definitely Genesis and probably a lot of me......
October 29, 2013 at 10:57 am #69682Rob WuMemberOK,
I seem to have fixed it.....
Looking at the link I mentioned above earlier, I did some digging in my database. I found some stray references of earlier plugins that were already uninstalled.
Removing those references from the database did the trick it seems. It looks some form of posts overlap in code did something weird with the blog post lists.
It all seems to work again now.
Thanks for all suggestions!!

October 29, 2013 at 11:09 am #69685MealtogMemberThat is interesting indeed Rob. You had mentioned that switching to a generic non Genesis theme showed the right results. That leads us to believe it was only Genesis that was affected. So these orphaned database entries only affected Genesis. Wow, indeed.
October 29, 2013 at 11:11 am #69686Rob WuMemberI did:
What I tested so far:
- running only Genesis: problem exist
- running child theme for this site: problem exist
- running child theme from working site: problem exist
- running theme 2013: showing list of full page blog entries.Sorry if that wasn't clear.
Now I just have to figure out what plugin it was. There were a couple of entries in the database 😉
Just shows to be careful with having too many plugins...
