I installed Crave on a test site and put a header widget back in. I can’t seem to get a full width header with just the header widget (with navigation in it) overlaid on top.
The header image has a green stripe going all the way across but it cuts it off when something is in the header widget. In other themes (Vintage in particular) I can do a header like this no problem.
Right now the header image area is set at 400px but if I make it go to the full 1000px the header widget moves below the header. Right now the navigation (in the Header widget) is exactly where I want it–I just want to be able to see the entire header as well.
I am running the latest WordPress, Genensis and the child theme on this test site.
I know of no StudioPress theme that overlays the ‘header widget’ over a full image header. The vintage ‘demo’ has full width header with navigation below. I no not know if any community themes have this feature. If the ‘Vintage’ theme does have this feature I would investigate the stylesheet to see how they did it. It would probably involve using the css property ‘z-index’ or positioning.

This test site has a full size header (1000px wide) with a widget on top of the image for just the social media icons. It is the craftiness theme. No z-index used. I just put the text/html widget in the header widget and it worked.
