Hi,
I hope I can get a response here. This is a very simple question and yet for me its a difficult task to achieve. I've been looking through the css files and just couldn't figure out where to add the color code.
My site is http://adultacnetreatmentreviews.com. If you look at the site now, the background is all white including the content area. So the whole site looks very white and wide. I need a background color say maybe some shades of grey so that the content area which I want to leave it as white will stand out.
Can someone just don't show me the code snippets but also show me where exactly I need to change it. The theme I'm using is eleven40 theme.
Thank You.
Regards,
Sunil

January 10, 2013 at 6:33 am #10924SunilMemberHi Braddalton,
I don't see any background function under the Appearance menu. All I see are these options:
Themes
Widgets
Menus
EditorSo where is the function?
January 10, 2013 at 7:54 am #10935Brad DaltonParticipant/** Add support for custom background */
add_theme_support( 'custom-background' );This will enable the custom background page
Add the code to your child themes functions.php file
You can also use this in your child themes style.css file
body {
background-color: orange;
}
January 10, 2013 at 8:11 am #10939SunilMemberHi,
I've added those codes in the functions.php file.
When I tried to update it, my whole site went blank!Now I couldn't even log in!
Help!
January 10, 2013 at 8:30 am #10943media317ParticipantYou'll need to access your site files through FTP or cPanel and remove the code you inserted in functions.php. Then you can access the site again.
Change the background color by changing the style.css. Add the background color to the body div.

Put the CSS code in your child themes style.css file and the php in your child themes functions.php
You'll need to access these files using FTP or your web hosts File manager in cPanel and delete the code you added.
If you can't do this, email me your cPanel or FTP details and i'll fix it.
January 10, 2013 at 8:51 am #10949SunilMemberHi,
I uploaded the original functions php file from my pc to the respective theme folder via ftp and it still doesn't work.
I'm just an ordinary customer who is seeking to find a good theme for my site. You guys are the experts in php and css coding stuff.
Why get people like me to mess up with these things? Its really getting very frustrating enough for me. Isn't there any predesigned themes where we don't really have to customize a lot?
All I did was added these codes in the functions.php file,
/** Add support for custom background */
add_theme_support( 'custom-background' );and the whole site disappeared!
January 10, 2013 at 9:31 am #10962SunilMemberHi Brad,
I've already emailed you my login details.
Hope you received them and help solve the problem.
Thankyou.
January 10, 2013 at 9:41 am #10967Brad DaltonParticipantYou also added } to the end of the php which caused the white screen of death!
Check your Custom Background page now Sunil.
January 10, 2013 at 9:50 am #10969SunilMemberFantastic Brad!
Thanks a lot! Was the adding of } that messed up everything?
So how did you do it? I mean just add those codes in to my functions php file and I would get that background function option?
Yes, I see this option in my admin panel now.
Is it possible also if you can advise me on how to add a slider on the index page? I've already installed the genesis slider plugin. But this is a widget and can only be placed in the right header widget.
Or do you want me to post this on a fresh new thread?
January 10, 2013 at 9:54 am #10970SunilMemberI've managed to change the background color to a gray shade. But I want the content area to remain white. How should I achieve that?
Like for eg, the AgentPress theme has a dark blue background while the content area is white.
January 10, 2013 at 10:15 am #10973Brad DaltonParticipantJanuary 10, 2013 at 10:42 am #10979SunilMemberI actually want to create a home page just like the Agency theme. There is the slideshow on the first page.
I was proposing to place a slider on my index page. The url is http://adultacnetreatmentreviews.com.
The reason I chose the eleven40 theme is because it has a wide content place and it has a great footer design.
January 10, 2013 at 10:50 am #10980Brad DaltonParticipantYou can add a widget area to the home page and then use the Genesis responsive slider ( Involves coding ) http://www.briangardner.com/home-widget-area-eleven40/
or you could use the Genesis Simple Hooks plugin and paste one line of php code for another slider (Easing Slider) in the hook location you want to display the slider
January 10, 2013 at 11:06 am #10989SunilMemberOk. I've read your post and that seems very scary indeed!
I'll try doing that and if anything goes wrong, hope you can help fix it for me.
Besides as I was earlier mentioning about the background color, I can see that you have a white background for your content area and you have a big mountain background behind it.
Currently I can change the background color after you have helped installed the custom background function. I have changed it to slight gray but I want my content area to remain white. How do I do that?
If its really too much a hassle to customize this theme, then will you be able to recommend a theme for me? Or should I just take the Agency theme instead?
January 10, 2013 at 11:17 am #10994SunilMemberHi Brad,
Ok. I've read your post and that sounds pretty scary. I'll try to do that tomorrow. Just in case, if something goes wrong, hope you can help to fix it for me.
I notice that your website has a nice mountain background while your content area is white. Currently, I can only change the background color after you have helped me installed the custom background function. I've change it to a slight gray shading and it has become gray the entire background of my site.
But I want my content area to be white. So how can I do that?
Or do you think I should just switch to the Agency theme instead if it is all too much a hassle for me to customize this theme? Or do you have any recommendations?

January 10, 2013 at 11:28 am #11000Brad DaltonParticipantPut this in your child themes style.css file (Not Your Functions.php)
body {
background-color: #F7F7F7;
}or add an image for the background rather than a color.
You might want to change the background in the Background page back to the default of white
No keep the same theme and just install Genesis Simple Hooks and Easing Slider.
Adding the slider is easy.
January 11, 2013 at 8:40 am #11204SunilMemberHi Brad,
I've placed these codes in my style sheet.
body {
background-color: #F7F7F7;
}And then I changed the custom background color to white. I still see the whole site in white color. I don't see the grey tone at the back of my content area.
Please help.
