All my menu's are in the right place. on Site/wp-admin/nav-menus.php
The right menu's are selected on the menu's screen but no menu's (or dropdowns) are appearing on my site.
I've tested w/ plugins disabled. This is the strangest thing. ( A sports handicapping / predictions service website)
Anyone have suggestions I haven't tried?
http://www.capperspicks.comMay 7, 2013 at 11:54 am #39737essaysnarkParticipantHi nwsports - I don't have any experience with the Mocha theme, but the first question I had is, have you added your custom menus onto a sidebar area? The way it works on our theme is, we set up the menus like you have, and then go to Appearance -> Widgets and drag the Custom Menu widget over to the sidebar (on our theme it's called the Header Right sidebar, it might be different for yours). Do you have that part set up?
May 7, 2013 at 12:01 pm #39739nwsportsMemberHi,
Thanks for reply. I'll try that as a test to make sure menu's are working on sidebars at least. The menu's i'm trying to get to work on the top nav menu's and dropdowns. That will display full width across the top just under logo area.
May 7, 2013 at 12:04 pm #39740nwsportsMemberI just tested by adding my main nav menu to a custom menu in a widget area for the right sidebar, and that displayed just fine as it should. So my problem is that the Main nav + Sub nav menu's I've created just aren't displaying ful width under the logo area.
May 7, 2013 at 12:04 pm #39741essaysnarkParticipantThe instructions I provided are to get the menus to display across the top - yes it can be confusing since the sidebar region may have a non-intuitive name, like in our theme it's called Header Right but that sidebar area actually puts the menus all the way across the top of our site.
May 7, 2013 at 12:11 pm #39742essaysnarkParticipantMy last reply was actually meant in response to your previous one... Let me try to offer something else now. 🙂
With our theme - again it could be different with Mocha - we have a menu below the header image that is set up in the Menus screen and then assigned in that same screen in the Theme Locations - Primary Navigation Menu dropdown. On our theme, it displays that menu starting on the left side top of the screen and extends across.
We have another menuing system which is what I described originally, using the widget. That menus is also defined in the Menus screen but it's not selected in the dropdowns there; it's only added to the site using the Custom Menu widget.
Not sure this is helping you any but wanted to try and explain how the two different options are sometimes configured.
If you haven't already, you might want to check out your theme's instructions - this post tells you where to find them. The menu setup is usually covered there.
May 7, 2013 at 12:14 pm #39744nwsportsMemberI don't have a widget area assigned in my theme for that to work.
It's a custom site - theme built by an old developer.
May 7, 2013 at 12:17 pm #39745nwsportsMemberI do have 2 blank widget areas called home left content and home right content. I'm wondering how I code the area just above my logo to possibly use those 2 widgets...and then add the custom menu's to them?
May 7, 2013 at 12:22 pm #39746essaysnarkParticipantIf the theme has been customized it's going to be difficult for us to help. The default Mocha theme has it set up as I've been describing, you can see it here: http://demo.studiopress.com/mocha/ If that widget area has been removed, then consider adding it back perhaps?
May 7, 2013 at 12:26 pm #39747nwsportsMemberWe have 8 or 9 menu's because for each section of the site we used a different sub menu (per sport).
We had 1 main menu that just went sitewide across the top. Yes this is probably over my head and everyones in here. My old developer was a guy I actually found on the list of studiopress designers for hire about 4 yrs ago, but he's no longer around. Sucks...
I don't know what broke these menu's from working...they were there 1 minute, and seemed like gone the next, after removing a couple plugins (that weren't even dependant on this stuff)
May 7, 2013 at 12:37 pm #39751essaysnarkParticipantOK a couple ideas: If any of the plugins you removed had the word "Genesis" in them, then it's likely that's what took out your menus. A common plugin called Genesis Simple Hooks is used to add custom code and have it "hook into" the Genesis framework. Do you know if you had that installed? If so, adding it back could be a first step, though I doubt it would have saved the actual code in the database if the plugin was actually deleted.
If you're feeling adventurous, then this is the place to start on customizing when/where menus are displayed in Genesis: http://my.studiopress.com/snippets/navigation-menus/
If you don't have experience with editing the functions.php file then you should be VERY careful with all of this, as one typo can bring down your whole site. Make sure you have FTP access to the server before you start, and create a backup of everything before you make any changes.
There's also a lot of great talent here and somebody may be able to step in with some paid help if that's what you need - you might want to post a new thread to see if you have any takers.
May 8, 2013 at 9:14 am #39888nwsportsMemberI deleted Feed WordPress plugin, that is all. No. No genesis plugins were deleted.
I'm not feeling adventurous. Me and code do not see eye to eye at all. I know my limitations. I know enough to be dangerous when it comes to functions.php but prefer not to mess around in there.
Does anyone have any other ideas what the problem might be? Today I deleted my custom menu's, and RE-added them, still no dice. It's as though they're not registering or something. Everything saves right, but nothing, no menu's wheer they're supposed to be.
May 8, 2013 at 9:26 am #39890essaysnarkParticipantEasiest at this point might be to see if your webhost has a backup of your site that they can restore for you.
May 8, 2013 at 9:34 am #39894nwsportsMemberI'm convinced this is a code issue, or maybe WP (files have been updated) or Genesis needs to be installed again? Dunno if that would help.
May 8, 2013 at 9:34 am #39895nwsportsMemberI appreciate your help essaysnark, does anyone else have any suggestions?
