Mobile Responsive, Not?

I switched my sites over to StudioPress mobile responsive versions and figured all is okay (I don’t use a smartphone, so can’t test them on my own device). Today, though, I tried several mobile-friendly test sites and emulators–and all return NOT mobile friendly.

What am I missing?

Thank you, Jared. Have you used the online testing tools for your sites? Seems unlikely the tools would all be wonky. I’m wondering if they are looking at parameters not affected by StudioPress mobile responsive design …. ??

Thank you, Jonathan. I’ve seen that tool elsewhere. It checks width and device size only. My consternation is why the w3 validator, for instance, returns such a poor report.

It seems the biggest error is with the page size then additional errors beyond that related to page content. Interestingly I tested against several other sites that received similar negative errors for “popups,” invalid HTML, and several other issues that I know do not exist. It seems the tool is not really reporting correctly in some cases.

Additionally, it seems to be a bit outdated. While I agree that keeping the size down is important, more and more devices are using much higher download speeds, better processors, and have more internal memory. Those limitations are as outdated as it would be to apply the limits we imposed back in the early 2000s when broadband was first getting popular but most people connected with dialup still.

It was designed as a “mobile first” theme and really does a good job of showing off how to do mobile responsive. They nail it something fierce.

Just found this older thread.

What I find interesting is when viewing a Genesis responsive theme at  http://www.studiopress.com/responsive/ through FireFox the site entered does NOT display correctly and I must use Chrome browser.

However, viewing http://twentytwelvedemo.wordpress.com on the SP responsive test page it shows correctly even in FireFox.
