I should start out by stating that I am using genesis framework with the optimal theme.
so I am building a test page before putting it live. This page uses posts not only for the blog but also the events as well (worked out nicely with the genesis featured posts widget for the main page.) Each post goes in their own category, i.e. -blog and -events.
When I set up the blog page, even though I tell it to only pull from category: -blog, it pulls all posts. Not a big deal as having the events on the blog page works out. The problem is now I want to create an events page, where every time a post is made for an event (in the category – events) it will be automatically added to the events page (this way it still post to the featured posts widget on the main page,) as the blog does.
If i choose blog template it posts all the posts, no matter the category! We cant have the blog posts on the event page.
I can’t use the widget as there is no short-code and i can only use widgets on the predetermined places it gives me (Home middle wide, home footer, primary sidebar and etc…)
I am also using the primary sidebar already for the contact form on the contact page. So i cannot use that space either.
How can I set up a page for events that will lists the events, that are made as posts, to that page…. I don’t see what I am missing here.
Thank You for reading and hopefully getting back to me,

Also, there are a few ways you can add places for widgets, shortcode or no shortcode.
One is to use the plugin Genesis Simple Sidebars.
Another is to code them in yourself – the way I do it, and the way I teach it, it’s really a very straightforward process of editing three files: a new template file you create, called page_events.php; functions.php and of course your stylesheet.
I need to run some errands, but I’ll check in when I get back – I’m also waiting for something from a client – in a couple of hours. If you can’t wait, you can also watch this video. http://wordpress.tv/2014/03/01/mary-baum-three-files-infinite-layouts-the-designers-guide-to-total-creativefreedom/
Be it ever so run down, there’s no place like FriendFeed.April 8, 2014 at 7:53 am #99040

On the Genesis settings page to exclude a category from the blog posts page fill in the CATEGORY ID.
This is a number, not a name.
