    I am a CSS novice and am wanting to replace the slider on Serenity with a text or featured page widget.  This is easy enough to do, however, the background goes to the default theme background.  I would like it to be white to match the content section of the page.  Any direction on this would be most helpful.

    Thanks!

    You’ll need to put the text widget in so we can see what is going on

    Done.  I put a … and you can see the background shows through instead of it being white.

    Try changing the hook used for the slider sidebar in functions.php to before_content_sidebar_wrap, i.e.

    // Add the slider on the homepage above the content area
    add_action(‘genesis_before_content_sidebar_wrap’, ‘serenity_include_slider’);
    function serenity_include_slider() {
    if(is_front_page())
    dynamic_sidebar( ‘slider’ );
    }

    That removes that are completely instead of allowing me to use the text widget.

    Make sure that you only edit the hook

    I copy and pasted what you posted and deleted what was already in the file.  It takes that section out completely.

    It is removing it completely for me.

    I am replacing:

    // Add the slider on the homepage above the content area
    add_action(‘genesis_after_header’, ‘serenity_include_slider’);
    function serenity_include_slider() {
    if(is_front_page())
    dynamic_sidebar( ‘slider’ );
    }

    With:

    // Add the slider on the homepage above the content area
    add_action(‘genesis_before_content_sidebar_wrap’, ‘serenity_include_slider’);
    function serenity_include_slider() {
    if(is_front_page())
    dynamic_sidebar( ‘slider’ );
    }

    Correct?  I must be missing something somewhere.  Right now I have the edited code in functions but if you go to the site it simply looks like I have removed the widget.  I have the text widget in the slider’s place on the live site with gibberish written in it but nothing shows.

    I just went in and created another top widget area that I could place a feature page and took the slider completely out.  Seems to have done the trick.
