Hello there,
Just purchased Parallax Pro and going through the setup.....This is the first time I'm using a parallax theme...
Just finding that the explanation on setting up the pages is a bit confusing.
I downloaded the demo content to see where everything fits but that is not shedding any light.
This may seem stupid - but what content goes on Pages and what content goes into the Home Section Widget areas?
And which content gets controlled by the Navigation Menu?I'm not even sure if you are going to understnd what I'm getting at....I'll get there.
Appreciate your guidance.Regards

Anyone out there?
Kinda stuck here.....any ideas or recommendations?Regards
Greg

Then see where it appears in your theme homepage. For navigation, create a new menu in menu area and then drop custom menu widget to header right area. Still issue, update this thread and also mention your website url.

Need Genesis help? Davinder @ iGuiding Media | My Blog | Fresh Genesis ThemesFebruary 14, 2014 at 10:58 am #90314LaunchPad777MemberThanks Davinder,
The test site is here http://www.test.gregcooksley.com so that I can see how Parallax Pro works before building the client's website.
I'm busy playing around with the content right now...
What I've discovered is that Parallax Pro doesn't have smooth scrolling already built into the theme.
My client wants the effect when a Nav menu item is clicked, that it scrolls smoothly to that section of the page...I see that this is discussed here:
http://sridharkatakam.com/smooth-scrolling-page-links-genesis-theme/The question is where do you create the required js directory in Parallax Pro?

Need Genesis help? Davinder @ iGuiding Media | My Blog | Fresh Genesis ThemesFebruary 15, 2014 at 10:35 am #90483LaunchPad777MemberHey Davinder,
Ok you got me...
Not familiar with working with php....
I've just trawled around the Internet for more than a hour trying to see how to do this...Exactly how do you add or create a new js folder in the theme folder....
Thanks
GregFebruary 15, 2014 at 10:42 am #90485essaysnarkParticipantYou'll need to FTP to your server and create the directory there. If you're not familiar with that, then write back again and we'll help you out (basically if you use Firefox, you can use the Filezilla extension, or you can install a tool like FileZilla on your computer, and you'll need the FTP access credentials from your webhost - or, your host may have a control panel thingie you can use for this).
February 15, 2014 at 11:05 am #90487LaunchPad777MemberThanks..
Using Filezilla....Just went into the Parallax theme and see that there is already a js directory in place...learnt something new...thanks.
Ok if you need to add code to this directory - how do you do it?
Do you just add it via the editor?
How do you locate the directory in the editor?

GregFebruary 15, 2014 at 11:07 am #90488essaysnarkParticipantIf the files don't already exist, you'll need to FTP them into the directory. Once they're there, you can edit through the back-end WP editor.
February 15, 2014 at 11:22 am #90492LaunchPad777MemberI'm following the directions here:
http://sridharkatakam.com/smooth-scrolling-page-links-genesis-theme/
Step 1
Copy jquery.scrollTo.min.js and jquery.localScroll.min.js from Agency Pro’s js directory into your active Genesis child theme’s js (create if not existing) directory. If you do not own a copy of Agency Pro, you can download these js files from here and here respectively.
Those two files mentioned above in bold need to be added to the js directory......
If you look at /jquery.scrollTo.min.js you will see that it is a fair bit of code....how do you upload that via FTP?
Should it be first placed inside a folder on my PC?And then how do you get it into the Child Theme functions.php?
February 15, 2014 at 11:29 am #90494essaysnarkParticipant1. Right-click on the filename on Sridhar's website. Save it to your computer. Do that for the other one too.
2. Create a new text file locally (on your computer) using WordPad or whatever text editor you have. Save it as scrollto-init.js and copy that code block from the tutorial into it.
3. Using Filezilla, navigate to the /js directory under your child theme.
4. Upload the (edited to fix error:) 3 (not 4) .js files.
5. Edit your theme's functions.php using the back-end WP editor to include the changes from the tutorial. **IMPORTANT** Errors made when editing this file can bring down your entire site! Be sure to have a backup of the original functions.php file available before you make any changes to it. If your site goes down, you'll need to FTP that original file to the child theme folder.February 15, 2014 at 11:57 am #90502LaunchPad777MemberValuable advice indeed...
Before posting this thread I asked Official Support and they pointed me to Sridhar's blog and this Forum...
They suggested this:
Yes, Parallax Pro does have a js directory already. I would recommend adding this to the front-page.php file instead of functions.php since the scrolling will only work on the homepage. This way, you're not loading an extra resource on other pages.Best,
Jennifer Baumann
Support ManagerI understand what you say about uploading the files now.......but how do you do what you say in Point 5?
Are you saying that you copy the code again and add it at the bottom of the front-page.php in the WP editor?Really appreciate your help....
February 15, 2014 at 12:15 pm #90505essaysnarkParticipantNot sure what you mean by "copy the code again"... You'll be adding new information to your front-page.php.
If you're asking about the backup part:
To save a local backup of a file, use FTP to copy it down to your computer (or, select-all in the WP editor, copy, then paste to a new file on your computer).
You may also want to read up on WordPress - there's lots of excellent information available in the codex:
http://codex.wordpress.org/Editing_Files
Many tutorials are available on these basics, too.
February 15, 2014 at 12:38 pm #90509LaunchPad777MemberThanks,
Backed up the .php files to computer....
Successfully uploaded the 3 js files via FTP to th js directory.....
However in point 5, you say:
5. Edit your theme’s functions.php using the back-end WP editor to include the changes from the tutorial.What I'm asking is this - how do you specifically then edit front-page.php?
February 15, 2014 at 12:42 pm #90510essaysnarkParticipantThe same way you'd edit functions.php.
Please see http://codex.wordpress.org/Editing_Files as already referenced.
February 15, 2014 at 1:03 pm #90512LaunchPad777MemberThank you for your help....I learned a lot.
BTW - I have just read through the codex...
From Sridhar's tutorial the final step is to add this code to the front-page.php file:
Step 3
Add the following in child theme’s functions.php:
/**
* Enqueue scripts for smooth scrolling
*/
add_action( 'wp_enqueue_scripts', 'sk_smooth_scroll' );
function sk_smooth_scroll() {wp_enqueue_script( 'scrollTo', get_stylesheet_directory_uri() . '/js/jquery.scrollTo.min.js', array( 'jquery' ), '1.4.5-beta', true );
wp_enqueue_script( 'localScroll', get_stylesheet_directory_uri() . '/js/jquery.localScroll.min.js', array( 'scrollTo' ), '1.2.8b', true );
wp_enqueue_script( 'scrollto-init', get_stylesheet_directory_uri() . '/js/scrollto-init.js', array( 'localScroll' ), '', true );
}Is that what you are referring to in Point 5?
If so, then I have done it....
