I just bought and installed the Genesis framework and the Lifestyle Pro child theme on my under-construction blog. Out of the box, all of the widgets that appear in the sidebar also appear in duplicate on the right-hand side of the header. I did not put them there. The Lifestyle Pro demo certainly doesn't have this enabled by default.
In my Dashboard, under the Widgets menu, I see all of the widgets installed for the sidebar. However, the header doesn't have any widgets installed, at least according to the menu.
My goal was to make very minor customizations, take my blog live, and slowly modify the child theme along the way. However, the extra set of widgets in an awkward place is not workable. Can anyone offer any suggestions for how I can get the theme to start out with the default settings and not this silliness? I can't even find a way to reset the theme.
I am completely new to the Genesis framework, and have minimal experience messing with WordPress themes and settings.

I think the default widgets are put in the header right section by WordPress, for some reason. All you have to do is delete or move those widgets from the header right section. If you click on the individual widgets the box expands and you will see an option to remove them toward the bottom.
The Genesis themes don't come setup like the demo but there are setup instructions associated with your theme. Go to your downloads section on the StudioPress site to find them. Setting your site up like the demo falls under official support so if you have any problems along the way you can submit a ticket.

I discovered that if I go directly to "Widgets" in the dashboard, the offending header widgets are not listed. If I first go to "Customize" and then to the submenu for "Widgets" they are listed and can be removed... so that's taken care of.
I still have no idea why a redundant, misplaced set of widgets would be turned on in a new theme by default, and why I would have to go out of my way to turn them off... none of the other themes I experimented with before I bought Genesis had any widgets in the header, either by default or due to my efforts. Hopefully the user experience gets better from here on out!

I'm guessing there is a reason why Genesis does this by default, and it just hasn't occurred to me yet..
