I’m setting up a new blog with the Balance theme, and after a disastrous start where I managed to stuff up the functions.php and had to uninstall and reinstall WordPress, I’m now travelling along nicely (and with much more care!)
I want to reduce/eliminate the space under the header/menu on the home page. I’m not using the featured left and right widget areas, and I wonder if this is why I have the space there? (Website is at http://www.techmummy.com.au if you need to have a look at what I mean.)
Do I have to deregister those widget areas? I’m scared of heading into functions.php again! I know I should be editing all of this locally, but it all seems a bit complicated – I have NO coding experience and I’m learning as I go. Which is fun, but dangerous.
Look for this in the style.css. You can hide the code:
background: url("images/gray-texture.jpg") repeat scroll 0 0 transparent;
margin: 0 0 60px;
add this to it:
This way if you ever decide to use it – just remove that one line.
BRILLIANT! Thank you so much.
You’re welcome. I’ll close this now.
