Thank you Anitac for responding, I realized the issue. I networked activated the Genesis plugins and that causes an issue in MultiSite installations. I networked deactivated and then activated the needed plugins on a site by site basis.
citidmMemberAlso how would I clear the content on the bottom of the slider so they don't shift around?
citidmMemberThanks Davinder,
So I purchased the Soliloquy Slider. Now if I want to have the slider on only the static Home page when a Person first visits the site how would I incorporate it?
Again thanks for your help.
citidmMemberYes, I have cPanel and am on an apache server. So far I have run all the security scans and have followed all the recommended settings to have the server secured.
Any good references I should check out?
This has been a very good learning experience. I like knowing how Things work.
citidmMemberYes. Completely self managed vps. I get 100% full root access.
On the slider, do you think it's a good investment to get the lifetime license of soliloquy. I found a discount code online for 25% off.
What can soliloquy do that genesis slider can't?
citidmMemberAlso, do you have any recommendations on WordPress Sliders and Performance? Trying to figure out which one to go with that provides great features and speed.
The Contenders:
Soliloquy
WooSlider
Genesis Responsive SliderThanks again.
citidmMemberI am currently on Yahoo Small Business but I recently got a VPS from Godaddy with 4gbs of ram that I will be transferring the site too. I know every host is different and have heard that managed hosting is easiest but I am looking to learn how to manage my own server with a goal of getting a dedicated server in the future. But before I make that investment I need to learn a lot more than what I already know.
Thanks for your help.
citidmMemberOr is The Genesis Responsive Slider the way to go feature and performance wise?
citidmMemberThanks for your feedback and advice. I am really interested in learning about how to best optimize wordpress and the server / hosting environment.
How do you configure a server to work smoothly with WordPress? Note: I am using cPanel.
Again, thanks for all your advice.
citidmMemberThanks everyone,
I went into my cPanel and ran repair database.
Then I went into the the folder that houses my wordpress site on my computer and manually removed themes, I also removed un needed plugins, Then I ftp'd everything to the site. Before I did all this I made several backups of the database and files.
Now it is fixed.
Thanks for all your help.
citidmMemberWhen I try to delete a theme from wordpress I get sent to a page that says "cheatin ugh"
I'm also using the premise plugin. Not sure if that is impacting it.
citidmMemberYes, I installed the zip from a download here and upload to wordpress.
I am only running the framework. I am using a vps server from godaddy but its unmanaged. I am in control of the vps via cpanel.citidmMemberAlso when I go to the editor in the appearance section it says theme does not exist.
citidmMemberERROR: The theme directory "genesis" does not exist.
That is the error. Interesting thing is that I am getting that error for every single theme I install. Must be a glitch in my installation.
I deleted the themes and then tried to reinstall but the error still shows up. It's not messing anything up but I'm just curious to what impact it might be having that I am not aware of and why it's happening.
Thank you for getting back to me.
citidmMemberThanks Brad,
I am going to migrate to a VPS with 4gbs of ram, Quad Core Processor. Hopefully that will help. What is Managed Hosting?
December 4, 2013 at 9:34 am in reply to: How to do a Full WordPress Backup and Migration from Old Host to New Host #76950citidmMemberCool, thanks everyone. I also found a way to do it in phpMyAdmin. By using the export tab and checking off the proper boxes and it then generates a sql file. There are apparently a bunch of ways to do this.
I always thought just using ftp and downloading from the hosting server would be enough. Guess not.
citidmMemberThanks Dave,
I am going to look at a few options. Genesis is an awesome framework and I like the fact that it's a highly supported framework, Bootstrap has a ton of great features that I'd like to incorporate. Now the two combined would be awesome. If not then I could probably use the underscores theme. I haven't played with foundation much so I will look there too.
Thanks again.
November 25, 2013 at 8:50 pm in reply to: How to do a Full WordPress Backup and Migration from Old Host to New Host #75621citidmMemberNote I also want the Posts and Pages. Is that included with a wordpress backup?
citidmMemberJust tested again and it improved to 4.09 seconds. How should the Super Cache be set?
citidmMemberThanks again, I implemented most of what you mentioned and I see the requests have gone down to 38 and the site score went up to 95 but for some reason the load time just went up to 9.78 seconds even though the page size was reduced and requests reduced. Scratching my head.
