I think that it is very unlikely that the update of the theme has anything to do with it.
Your domain name is quite new with links to it from only one IP address. Google is unlikely to give much weight to these links (if any). It is unlikely that your website would rank highly for any competitive keywords yet.
Sometimes new websites can get a temporary initial boost in rankings before it settles down in a more natural position. It is possible that the drop you experienced just happened to coincide with the change of theme.
I don't know if you have made use of the inbuilt SEO features of Genesis or alternatively the Yoast plugin. Good use of either of these will help your rankings in the long run.
Just my opinion!

EM DzineeamonmoriartyParticipant"the layout shifts a bit"
If I understand correctly what you are referring to, I think that the "shift" is nothing to do with CSS and is not really a problem.
I think that it is simply that some of the pages are longer than others. On the longer pages a scrollbar appears taking up about 15px of the window causing the content to shift.Is that what you mean?
If you want to hide the scrollbars you might try adding
body {
overflow:hidden;
}
to the css file

EM DzineeamonmoriartyParticipantIn the Dashboard:
Themes/Prose/Background
Remove existing background
Upload
My Display options:
Position: Center
Repeat: No repeat
Attachment: FixedThat's probably what you did already.
Can you do it again and let us see, in case it's something like a cache issue.
The only other thing I can think of is perhaps you made some changes to the CSS file.
Have you done the usual disabling plugins etc to check for conflict? (I think its unlikely to be that.)
Eamon Moriarty
EM DzineeamonmoriartyParticipantIt happens that one of the websites I am currently developing is using Prose.
I have temporarily used a 1920 X 1200 background image to see how it works and it seems fine to me.
See at http://www.therunningpen.com. (I will be removing the background shortly)
Does that look OK?Which leaves me guessing that your image is not big enough.
Edit: Just saw your last post. That image should be OK.

EM DzineeamonmoriartyParticipanteamonmoriartyParticipantHave you tried adding /wp-login.php to the site address instead of /wp-admin?
Eamon Moriarty
EM DzineeamonmoriartyParticipantI can't see your css file properly but somewhere you have something like this:
body.custom-background
{
background-image: url("http://umpquawebdesign.com/oats/wp-content/uploads/2013/08/sample-bg.jpg");
background-repeat: repeat;
background-position: left top;
background-attachment: scroll;
}You need to replace 'sample-bg.jpg' with your full size image (having uploaded it) and
replace 'background-repeat: repeat;' with 'background-repeat: no-repeat;' and either
'background-position: center;' or remove that line altogether.If it looks like it’s under a microscope it probably means that it is a smallish image being stretched to fill the browser window.
Your image should be probably at least 1600px wide to fit most windows but to be sure that it fits higher resolution screens you would need to put
background-size: 100% in the css file.The downside of using one large image as a background is that the file size will be much larger causing the site to load slower. Ideally you should reduce the file size of the image as much as possible without losing too much quality.

EM DzineeamonmoriartyParticipantIn style.css
/* Line 108 */
input, label, select, textarea
{
color: #333333;
font-family: 'Copperplate',serif;
font-size: 14px;
}change color: #333333;
to
color: #fff;
Eamon Moriarty
EM DzineeamonmoriartyParticipantIf you have a Google fonts plugin installed you will be able to assign any Google Font to most elements.
Eamon Moriarty
EM DzineeamonmoriartyParticipantGenesis Simple Sidebars is a plugin which can be installed via Plugins/Add New in the normal way.
I don't have Magazine Theme installed but I think the "header" you refer to is done through your Dashboard/Categories. When you edit each Category you will find Category Archive Settings/Archive Intro Text etc.
Eamon Moriarty
EM DzineeamonmoriartyParticipanteamonmoriartyParticipantTo change the width you could add
body {
width: 1040px;
}(or whatever width you like) to your custom.css
Depending on what you are trying to achieve you would also have to modify the css for
/* Line 542 */
#content-sidebar-wrap
{
float: left;
width: 730px;
}and
/* Line 567 */
#content
{
float: left;
padding-top: 10px;
padding-right: 0px;
padding-bottom: 20px;
padding-left: 0px;
width: 420px;and
/* Line 1046 */
.sidebar
{
display: inline;
float: right;
font-size: 14px;
padding-top: 10px;
padding-right: 0px;
padding-bottom: 0px;
padding-left: 0px;
width: 280px;
}and possibly some other css as well.
A lot of work and experimenting neded to get widths, margins etc right doing it like this.
Eamon Moriarty
EM DzineeamonmoriartyParticipantIn style.css you have this:
.page {
border: none;
}If you change it to:
.page
{
border-top:10px solid #6799CE;
}I think that will work.
I'm not sure if adding it to your custom.css will work or not.
Eamon Moriarty
EM DzineeamonmoriartyParticipantHave you tried this plugin for creating floating sidebars?
http://www.strx.it/2010/11/wordpress-floating-sidebar-plugin/
Eamon Moriarty
EM DzineeamonmoriartyParticipantIn relation to these two suggested solutions:
.blogtitle {
display: none;
}and
.blogtitle {
margin-left: -4000px;
}from a SEO point of view, there has been quite an amount of debate as to whether Google and the other search engines would consider this to be 'hidden content'. I have not seen a definitive answer to this and I don't know the answer myself. In view of Google's aggressive policy against SEO trickery it would be good to know the right way to approach this.
Has anybody any views on this?
Eamon Moriarty
EM DzineeamonmoriartyParticipantI have used Next Scripts: Social Networks Auto Poster on quite a few sites and it has worked well.
You can add Facebook, Twitter, Google+, Pinterest, LinkedIn, Tumblr, Blogger/Blogspot, Delicious, etc accounts.
Eamon Moriarty
EM DzineeamonmoriartyParticipantApparently there are issues with pages translated with Transposh not appearing on SERPS. See this post
Has anybody here any experience of this?
Eamon Moriarty
EM DzineeamonmoriartyParticipantI'm not sure if you are concerned about the table row with 'Fish of the Day' which appears to be twice the height of the others.
This seems to be caused by a second <br /> tag in that row. If you can edit the table html and remove that <br /> it should solve that particular problem
Eamon Moriarty
EM DzineeamonmoriartyParticipantThere is a plugin called Page Links To which I have used on a few sites to achieve what I think you have in mind.
"Allows you to point WordPress pages or posts to a URL of your choosing. Good for setting up navigational links to non-WP sections of your site or to off-site resources."
Eamon Moriarty
EM DzineeamonmoriartyParticipantI had this problem with a different theme recently. There are various suggestions from Anitac and my own solution.
This may not work for your theme but it may be worth exploring.
