Thank you for the reply, Victor. But I have to admit that I don't know what your response means. Can you clarify where I would need to go to change the setting from a 124px top margin to something smaller?
katymartinMemberGeez. I sure thought I tried that, but I suppose I didn't. Thanks Davinder... this worked for me! Consider this "resolved"
katymartinMemberSorry for the hassle. I figured it out. It had to do with a random "z-index" number I accidentally placed there... which put these elements on top of everything else. Now I know.
katymartinMemberAnyone have a thought as to how get started?
katymartinMemberMike... you're a gentleman and a scholar. Give yourself a pat on the back because your solution worked flawlessly.
Consider this question resolved.
katymartinMemberThanks Mike. But that seems to change the background color of the post body itself. I'm looking to change the background color of the ICON only.
The CSS for this seems to be: .post-format-image (but that's for all of them)
Is there a way to break out the CSS so I can style the icon backgrounds differently based on the "alt=" distinction? (i.e. alt="aside")
katymartinMemberWow Tom... this looks really good. For $14 I figure I'll buy it and try it. I'll report back with results.
P.S. any other community suggestions in the meantime are also appreciated. Thanks all.
katymartinMemberAwesome, David! Thank you so much.
I eliminated the "normalize.css" and all of the "!important" tags and things are looking MUCH better. Still need to do some testing but I think this may have solved my problem.
You're the best.
katymartinMemberOk... I guess I stumped the community on this one. All I essentially wanted to do was to create a Home page that read:
Header
Navigation
Background Image
Footer* The old version of the Minimum theme did this naturally.
I have a client who fell in love with the look-n-feel of the Miniumum theme, which I've used on other projects before. But this time I began building on Minimum PRO. There seems to be a major difference in how this theme functions related to to the Home page. I really like on the old Minimum theme how the large background image would scroll up with the rest of the page. With Minimum Pro, it doesn't seem to matter if I choose "fixed" or "scroll" in the Background Image settings, it stays right were it is and all other page content scrolls up and over it.
The part I should probably disclose is that this client ONLY wants the header, primary nav, background image, and footer on the Home page. No other content. So here's what I had to do to get that look and layout:
Step 1: Remove "fixed" position from .site-header in CSS...
.site-header {
background-color: #fff;
border-bottom: 1px solid #eee;
letter-spacing: 1px;
letter-spacing: 0.1rem;
position: fixed; /** remove this line **/
width: 100%;
z-index: 999;Step 2: With no other content on the Home page, the footer is then directly underneath the navigation. So,... I had to add the following to my site's CSS:
.home .site-footer {
background-color: #333;
letter-spacing: 1px;
letter-spacing: 0.1rem;
margin-top: 60rem; /** Added this line, to give the footer some spacing on Home page **/
padding: 10px 0;
padding: 1rem 0;
text-align: center;
}------------
Now I definitely do not claim to be a CSS whiz. In fact, the opposite is true. So this method may be severely flawed. Your COMMENTS are welcome. All I know is that this seemed to work for me and what I'm trying to do.
}katymartinMemberBump. Anyone?
katymartinMemberI see the following in the functions.php file ~ Can I manipulate this somehow to rearrange the location of the navigation on the Home page? If so... any ideas as to what I need to delete or change?
//* Reposition the primary navigation menu
remove_action( 'genesis_after_header', 'genesis_do_nav' );
add_action( 'genesis_after_header', 'genesis_do_nav', 15 );//* Reposition the secondary navigation menu
remove_action( 'genesis_after_header', 'genesis_do_subnav' );
add_action( 'genesis_footer', 'genesis_do_subnav', 7 );//* Reduce the secondary navigation menu to one level depth
add_filter( 'wp_nav_menu_args', 'minimum_secondary_menu_args' );
function minimum_secondary_menu_args( $args ){if( 'secondary' != $args['theme_location'] )
return $args;$args['depth'] = 1;
return $args;}
katymartinMemberBump. Anyone have any ideas?
katymartinMemberOk... I've been playing around with different ideas and this is what I've discovered. Apparently I needed to load the images into the Media Gallery FIRST... then go the page/post I want to link in my slider and set the Featured Image.
I was using the Featured Image area of the page to upload the image (i.e. the image hadn't been uploaded yet). Doing it this way somehow overrides the original image size. It's probably a featured image setting somewhere.
SOOOO.... the take-away that I believe to be true is: Process ORDER Matters!
1) Install Genesis Responsive Slider
2) Set dimensions in 'Slider Settings'
3) Upload the image(s) to the Media Library
4) Go to page or post and Set Featured Image, choosing an image that's already in the Media LibraryHope this helps anyone experiencing similar problems.
katymartinMemberThank you, but that didn't work. Image is still cropped incorrectly and pushed left. And the "previous/next" arrows are full width. And ultimately, I want the slider to be full width: 1140x445 pixels
Is there someplace in my code that is somehow overriding the Slider Settings? It's like 920x400 is the largest the image box will stretch and it's cramming the full size image into those dimensions. ???
June 13, 2013 at 1:48 pm in reply to: Help with WooCommerce Sale Products in Genesis/Clip Cart theme #45717katymartinMemberDave - this feedback is so thorough and useful, thank you!
The slideshow has been slow (ain't that often the case) - but I removed it for a while yesterday and tested the site on Google Site Speed again and it didn't make a difference. Maybe I was too hasty asking Google to check. Maybe their report is not truly live.
Anyway, I think it is greater than the plugins in this instance as I have another site on the same system and it is showing slow signs too. Frustrating.
Again -thanks for your incredibly helpful insights! I'm off on the hunt for s site speed fixer!
June 13, 2013 at 12:28 pm in reply to: Help with WooCommerce Sale Products in Genesis/Clip Cart theme #45707katymartinMemberDavid - It's, err, a "relief" to know that I am not the only one that is baffled by the shear density of the WooC. CSS. ---and by that annoying <br> and inline styling. Thanks for the above - it worked perfectly! Thank you so very much!!
While we are on the topic of excess css, can you recommend anyone that can review this site and help speed it up. It is very slow at times and I don't know if it's because of all the CSS from Genesis+Themedy+ClipCart - and now WooC. The problem exited before I added woocommerce. I am worried about SEO an conversions.
Cheers, Katy
katymartinMemberOne solution I found that offers the responsive functionality I need is to use the Image Widget plugin. Similar to what's been included here:
Until someone develops a Featured Post widget that functions in the same way as the Featured Page widget, that's the best work-around I've found so far.
katymartinMemberThank you *anitac*
I didn't provide a link because I have a maintenance mode plugin activated. But I like the idea of using posts and simply redirecting them to the pages I want. I appreciate the reply... you always get me thinking of creative solutions.
Consider this resolved.
katymartinMemberThanks Brad... your notes above jogged my memory on that one. It inspired me to look further at how I could use the CSS classes of the menu to add an image.
For future reference, here's what I did to achieve the look I was after. A bit of a hack, especially if the client moves the menu order around, but it works for now:
.boardmembers:before, .communitybased:before, .seniorpartner:before, .newsletters:before, .events:before {
display: block;
content: "";
width: 220px;
height: 36px;
background: transparent url("http://netstorepro.com/partners/wp-content/uploads/2013/04/nav_tear_top-220.png") no-repeat;
}katymartinMemberThe plugin looks cool but doesn't seem to do what I need. I'm wondering if the "drop-down" section (ie. sub-nav) has a css class of it's own? Perhaps I can give it a background image?
