Hi! I have just bought a theme today and I was reading the tutorials on how to install genesis into wordpress, and it says that I should get the zip file in an e mail and I never did. How do I find the zip file so I can download into wordpress? I am new at this and have no idea how to do any of this stuff, so I would love any help or advice.

You will have created an account when you made your purchase. This is going to use the email address and password from that checkout page. Use that to log in at my.studiopress.com and download Genesis and a child theme from that page. You can also access the setup tutorials by clicking "Get Started" next to the child theme download link.March 21, 2013 at 6:35 pm #30337
If you log in to My StudioPress, you should be able to download the theme you bought from there.
Here are the instructions I got when I bought the Pro Plus package (all the themes):
1. Go to https://my.studiopress.com/
2. Log in with the username and password you chose at purchase
3. Click the "Downloads" tab to download your theme(s)
4. Explore the rest of my.studiopress.com for any questions you might have
I wasn't emailed the zips. The process may be different when you buy an individual theme.March 21, 2013 at 6:47 pm #30342
thanks everyone, but I have done all of that. I am just following all the steps that it says in the tutorial and when I go to wordpress to download it, it says that I have to download it with a zip file. I have already downloaded the file on this website, but now I need to put it into wordpress and the tutorial said I should have gotten the zip file in an e mail and I never did. It says I'm supposed to download the zip file into wordpress.
When I click on what I have downloaded from the theme I bought today, it opens up adobe dream weaver (I think) and I have no idea what to do with that. Is there a phone number where I can talk to someone from studio press so they can walk me through this?

Sorry that you are having trouble with this. I'm going to guess that you are on a Mac since that is when I usually see this issue. I recently switched to using a Mac and that first week this issue caused me endless frustrations. It turns out there is a default setting that unzips downloaded files and then deletes the zip file automatically. I guess this is handy unless you need the zip files like WordPress users do.
I found there are two simple solutions. You can disable this option in the browser preferences. I just looked and the option says "Open safe files after downloading" and is in the "General" tab. Once disabled you should be able to download zip files like normal.
The other option is to press "control" while clicking on your folder. Select to "compress" the folder and you will get a new zip file easy as that. It is super important that the Genesis folder be named "genesis" exactly like that. It can't be "genesis-2" or anything else like that.
I hope this helps ease your frustration and gets you back on track.March 21, 2013 at 6:50 pm #30344
by the way, which tutorial is referencing a zip sent via email? I'd like to get that changed.March 21, 2013 at 6:59 pm #30348
Hi. Yes I am a mac user 🙂 Thank you for letting me know about the problem with mac users. I will try to fix that. The tutorial that says it would be sent in an e mail is in the genesis for beginners section 2.1 step 3.
I think I'm going to take a break from this tonight and I will take another look at this in the morning. It's been a long day and I think I will have a better time making this work when I'm not so tired.
Thank you for your help! I will let you know if I have any other questions tomorrow.May 22, 2013 at 11:59 am #42224
Hi. Having just started trying to download and install new themes on my Mac I came across the exact same problem. No zip files appear in Downloads! They are all opened and therefore useless for theme installation. However, I cannot find the place Nickthegeek mentions. Have searched for a while now for the place where I can change the option for opening safe files. Would be ever so grateful for some guidance!

Ah I didn't get that it was the settings in Safari... Now I found it - thanks!
