This may sound like an odd question but....
I want to design a theme for a particular niche and sell it to a few affiliate marketers. I want the package to come pre-loaded with WordPress, the theme itself, blog posts, categories, configured widgets, configured settings etc... so basically they are buying a "business in a box".
I would like it that when they buy, the installation is super easy for them and it would show on their domain EXACTLY how I designed it with very little work on their end.
Is this possible and if yes, how would I do it?
September 10, 2014 at 1:32 pm #123805WebmasterMemberSpend some time studying WordPress Multisite and I think you will find it will meet most all of your requirements. There are many plugins that are Multisite-ready, so you can add on as may be required for your plans.

September 10, 2014 at 3:49 pm #123833WebmasterMemberAh. Well the issue will likely be support. If you provided the business-in-a-box as a service, you simply run Multisite and you will know everything is working, you know that you delivered exactly what the buyer paid for, and you upgrade everybody at the same time. You can also fix any problems or add any feature ONCE for all your affiliates. If you send them a zip file, there are infinite issues that could arise depending on the affiliate's chosen hosting and their skill level in setting things up. Additionally, you will have to distribute your own updates. And on a different note, the zip file could be easily distributed without your authorization - something that could not happen with Multisite.
Still, you can certainly do what you want to do, but it will be an involved process and you are not likely to find detailed instructions for everything that is required in this forum. You might do better searching Google for "WordPress install script" and such similar terms.

September 11, 2014 at 6:07 am #123909AnitaKeymasterHi Chantel,
I know what you area talking about. Joomla actually has a "Quick complete installation" process where you zip Joomla, the theme and settings into one and they give instructions to the developer on how to package it and 2) instructions on how to unzip and install for people who download the fullpackage.zip.
Not saying this isn't a good idea but here are my thoughts on the process. There are a lot of people who use different hosting packages that offer different services, i.e., managed WordPress installations and traditional quick install scripts, as well as old timers like me who do the manual install process. If someone buys one of those full packages from you - they may not know whether or not using a package like that would be an option for them. Managed WordPress hosts typically do not allow you to install WordPress, it's pre-installed for you and in a lot of cases have features and functions turned off on the back end which might prohibit your client/customer from installing what you give them. So you'll have to be really specific in who can use that type of product you are offering - what they need to have on their end so they know before they purchase.
They will still need to know and/or have instructions from you on how to create a database on their hosting company because the database information will be needed to do your "quick install".
If you pre-bundle the Genesis Framework and any themes - note that the client/customer will rely on you for support. They won't be able to get Official support from Studiopress and third party theme developers. If you wanted them to have access to that - you would need to purchase licenses for them in their name and supply that to them.
Me personally, I'd never try that because you really don't know what issues could come up from a hosting perspective and if it's not a quick install script that the hosting company offers - the hosting company will not help them - the client will have to rely solely on you for their support.
GavicPro, which started out as only Joomla template developers, has been offering WordPress themes. They have their Quick Complete Install process here. Maybe you can check it out to see if this will help you.
