No, you didn't say the excerpts were not displaying, you said, "excerpts display correctly" in Twenty Twelve. Not that they didn't display at all when using your Child Theme. Have you check your settings in Genesis Settings > Content Archives - do you have a number selected in "Limit Content to ___ characters" and is the Excerpt selected in the drop down?

March 3, 2013 at 2:00 pm in reply to: How to get featured images to work on blog using Magazine theme #23934AnitaKeymasterHere is the link to the instruction in a text file. The originator noted in there is not operational anymore. I am glad I copied these before their website went down.

AnitaKeymasterGlad you figured it out.

AnitaKeymasterOh, that's an internal WordPress function. I Googled it and found several ways to change that. Read them and select what you think is the best solution for yourself.

AnitaKeymasterIt looks like your theme was customized for you. You might want to contact the developer to see what they might have changed in your functions or home settings. Because when you go to Genesis > Genesis Settings > scroll down to Blog Page Template. Is that where you changed your number also?

AnitaKeymasterJust changing the file folder name doesn't change the internal workings of the theme. Rename the folder to SAMPLE and it should return to normal.

AnitaKeymasterThat is the Picasa Web Albums plugin found here - http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/pwaplusphp/.

AnitaKeymasterDid you change it in the main WP settings, i.e., Settings > Reading also? You need to change it there?

AnitaKeymasterWhat is wrong with it? You didn't describe what you think is missing or how you think it should look.

AnitaKeymasterPlease share a link to your site so we can take a look. Thank you.

AnitaKeymasterYou can do this with hooks also with Genesis Simple Hooks - http://www.studiopress.com/plugins/simple-hooks. And here is also the hook guide - http://genesistutorials.com/visual-hook-guide/.

AnitaKeymasterI'm sorry. I just looked at the theme on my demo server and it's called "Page Title" not Welcome.

AnitaKeymasterYou can drag a Featured Posts into the areas and select a category for each one. The slider is in the Featured-Full widget area, the ones below it are Featured Top Left, Featured Top Right, and so on and so forth. Just drag a Featured Post into each of these and select a different category for each one. Or you can drag whatever you want in there. The layout is controlled by widgets.

AnitaKeymasterWhat do you mean by "magazine" layout. I don't see that as an option in the demo - http://prettydarncute.com/demos/adorable/.

AnitaKeymasterIt's a
widgetwidget area. Go to Appearance > Widgets. Look on the right in the widget area and you should see Welcome - just drag a TEXT WIDGET into that area and add the words/statement you want.

AnitaKeymasterYou mean the block that says, "A mobile-responsive theme..." That's the welcome widget.
For menus/navigation - Go to the Genesis Tab, click Genesis Settings. Scroll down and you will see Primary and Secondary Navigation. You can activate both of them.
Then go to Appearance > Menus. Look in the middle and you will see Primary and Secondary both with drop downs. Create your menus on the right and then tell the Primary and Secondary which menu to use.
Download "Genesis for Beginners" here - http://www.studiopress.com/news/genesis-for-beginners.htm. If you need more help, don't hesitate to ask.

AnitaKeymasterYou have to manually fix that - do this:
> Open up using FTP
> Look inside the WP-DBmanager plugin for the htaccess.txt file (wp-content/plugins/wp-dbmanager)
> MOVE it to the backup-db file folder (rogerlapin.co.uk/web/wp-content/backup-db)
> Then RENAME htaccess.txt to .htaccessThis is a security measure. Once you do that, then revisit the dashboard and the warning will be gone.

AnitaKeymasterI would turn the "repeat" off of the logo. Did you insert that by using the header function? If so, go over and turn repeat off. I can see the logo repeating below it. The black background is an actual image, so you would need to replace that with an appropriately sized image to allow for both the Logo and the Tagline (height).
You can activate the secondary navigation and move it by the instructions found here - http://my.studiopress.com/snippets/navigation-menus/.
Where I see the word Madge on the top right - you could replace that with the Simple Social Icons - http://www.studiopress.com/plugins/simple-social-icons or you could use the Social Circles - http://www.studiopress.com/plugins/social-circles.

AnitaKeymasterWell, like I said, I am "old hat".... you can use FTP and backup your Images folder as well as your theme, especially if you customized it. I use Filezilla FTP and I just log in and drag my image folder over to my desktop. I don't change the dates or anything, I just click and drag. Sometimes a one-click action can be flawed, but I am just really anal about my backup!
Did you do your Tools > Export to your desktop at all? It's important to do that too. It renders an XML of your content.

AnitaKeymasterIn my experience shortcodes don't work in a text widget unless you have a plugin. Try this - http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/shortcodes-in-sidebar-widgets/.
