string-dIn the television show The Wire, one of the major problems the Barksdale organization faced was identifying and punishing thieves.

Early in season one, the character Stringer Bell approached one of his lieutenants (D’Angelo Barksdale), telling him that they had a snitch tipping off their stick-up crew.

Bell’s solution for identifying the thief was to withhold payment to the crew. The crew member that didn’t come asking for his money would be identified as the thief.

Mobile Responsive Design: The Flexible Grid

I know I’m a little late to the game, but I’ve recently started watching The Wire. I’m into season three now and just watched episode four titled “Hamsterdam.”

In that episode Major Colvin is faced with the task of reducing violent crime in populated neighborhoods. Knowing he has limited manpower and resources, he decides to re-locate the dealers and users from communities inhabited by innocent people to three different zones where there are vacant buildings.

The major tells the dealers that they are free to sell in these zones without penalty from the police. They will not be arrested or harassed as long as they abandon their current street corners and move to this new territory.

As we’ve already announced, StudioPress themes will be updated for responsive design which will make them mobile-friendly. Devices such as the iPhone, iPad, Android and others will be optimized for a better viewing experience without disrupting the integrity of the design you have on your site.

Responsive Design for Genesis Child Themes

With the exponential increase of mobile device and tablet users, the concept of responsive web design is becoming more relevant to what we do here at StudioPress. While there are some plugins that exist which make a theme “mobile”, we decided to take matters into our own hands.

While I was in San Francisco this summer for WordCamp, I had the pleasure of attending a session called Responsive Web Design given by Sara Cannon. (Follow her at @saracannon.)
